Round Square

NBHIS International School has gained membership of the Round Square Conference of Schools, a worldwide network of schools from 40 countries in over 5 continents. These schools all have a goal to not only educate students academically but also to prepare them for adulthood, encouraging excellence in all areas of life and instilling the importance of being the best person they can be.

The organisation was started by Kurt Hahn who founded Outward Bound, Salem School in Germany, Gordunstoun School in Scotland, the United World College movement and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The Round Square schools are characterised by a holistic approach to education, based on the 6 IDEALS. These IDEALS are the underlying principles of all the schools associated with Round Square, and are the values we aim to embed in our curriculum.

At NBHIS International School, Round Square provides students with life changing opportunities they will remember for a lifetime.

CONFERENCES

Students have the opportunity to go on international Round Square conferences with other student delegates from all over the world. There are junior (regional) and senior (worldwide) conferences held annually. Conferences are a great way for students to meet new friends and see what others around the world are doing to make a difference.
“Round Square is a great way to make new friends and explore another culture. If I had the chance to go again I would definitely go!”
Cecile Pelletier, Y7. Round Square regional conference delegate, 2015.
“We learned a lot about different people’s stories from when they were going through life and hardships.”
Arielle Dow, Y6. Round Square regional conference delegate, 2015.
“Going on the Round Square conference trip was an amazing experience and I am very happy I was chosen.”
Soraya Moore, Y7. Round Square regional conference delegate, 2015.

EXCHANGES
Each year, our students will have the opportunities to go on exchange at other Round Square schools around the world. So far, we have had several students go on exchange to Australia and the United Kingdom. Exchanges are a fantastic opportunity for students to really immerse themselves in another culture and have experiences they will remember forever.  The important facet of the exchange experience is that it is reciprocal.  In other words, our school does not seek any financial reward in the exchange experience.  Families are not charged a fee for the exchange.  Instead students pay for their airline ticket and spending money.  As the family here will host a student in China, a local family in the country where the student goes on exchange, will likewise host our students.  Exchanges can be from 4 to 10 weeks in duration.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE PROJECTS

Starting in the 2015-16 academic year, students will have an opportunity to go on annual international service trips. Students will be working together to raise money throughout the year to meet a goal, and the money will be used in collaboration with a NGO to buy supplies for a community in need. They will then travel to communities in need, staying with them and helping them out with teaching and building projects.
