What is most pleasing to us as counselors, however, is to see the breadth of programs our students have been accepted to. Of course, many of our students are interested in business and economics courses, but our current batch of offers includes courses in geology, sociology, international relations and even artificial intelligence. We believe this breadth of courses is a product of the IB curriculum: its focus on inquiry-based learning challenges students to find what they are passionate about and see where that path leads. For NBHIS students, that path always leads upward, now more so than ever.
Imperial College London is a public research university located in London, U K. The main campus is located in South Kensington, with a new innovation campus in White City. Imperial is organized through faculties of science, engineering, medicine and business. The university’s emphasis is on technology and its practical application. In 2018-19, Imperial is ranked 8th globally (1st in London) in the QS World University Rankings, 9th in the The World University Rankings and 24th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
UCL (legally University College London) is a public research university in London, England, and a constituent college of the federal University of London. UCL is a member of numerous academic organizations, including the Russell Group, and is part of UCL Partners, the world’s largest academic health science center, and the “golden triangle” of research-intensive English universities. In the 2018/19 QS World University Rankings, UCL is ranked 10th in the world (and 5th in Europe). UCL alumni include the ‘Father of the Nation’ of each of India, Kenya and Mauritius, the founders of Ghana, modern Japan and Nigeria, the inventor of the telephone, and one of the co-discoverers of the structure of DNA. UCL academics discovered five of the naturally occurring noble gases, discovered hormones, invented the vacuum tube, and made several foundational advances in modern statistics. As of 2017, 33 Nobel Prize winners and 3 Fields medalists have been affiliated with UCL as alumni, faculty or researchers.
The University of Edinburgh founded in 1582, is the sixth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland’s ancient universities. The university is deeply embedded in the fabric of the city of Edinburgh, with many of the buildings in the historic Old Town belonging to the university. The University of Edinburgh is ranked 18th in the world by the 2019 QS World University Rankings. It is a member of both the Russell Group, and the League of European Research Universities, a consortium of 21 research universities in Europe. It has the third largest endowment of any university in the United Kingdom, after the universities of Cambridge and Oxford. Edinburgh receives approximately 60,000 applications every year, making it the second most popular university in the UK by volume of applications.
Leiden University founded in the city of Leiden, is the oldest university in the Netherlands. The university was founded in 1575 by William, Prince of Orange, leader of the Dutch Revolt in the Eighty Years’ War. The Dutch Royal Family and Leiden University have a close association: Queen Juliana, Queen Beatrix and King Willem-Alexander are former students. Leiden University has seven faculties (six in Leiden and one in The Hague) and over 50 departments. The university is a member of the Coimbra Group, the Europaeum and the League of European Research Universities.
